Keys to fighting legalism

God sees you. He sees you when it feels like no one else does. He sees your afflictions; your disobedience; your past, present and future; and he sees what you need.

Paul explains how God's people are children of the promise, not of the law. he uses the story of Hagar and Sarah from Genesis 16 and 21 to show how the law is a covenant of slavery and Jesus' grace is a covenant of freedom. We'll hear the joyful declaration of that freedom in Galatians 5:1: "For freedom Christ has set us free."

Here is an undeniable truth – each one us here has a mother who gave us life. This is reason enough - although for most, there are a myriad of other blessings you have received from and through your mother - to honor your mother; to honor her on a particular day, but also to honor her throughout your life and by giving of that life she gave you to the world around you.

The Galatians have been told that to truly be God's children, they have to become children of Abraham. But the fallacy of the false teachers was forgetting that Abraham had two circumcised sons and that only one of them was free. In our text Paul gives an historical, an allegorical, and an applicational argument against legalism and the religion of works, calling believers everywhere to stand firm in the freedom Christ bought us with his blood!

REJOICE! BREAK FORTH AND CRY ALOUD! For we are no longer slaves! But we are children of Christ and He has loved us by giving his life to set us Free!
