Christ's ministry in heaven

Jesus has ascended to the right hand of the Father. Although we might be sad that he is not visibly with us, knowing that he is preparing a place for us and that we will see him again turns our sadness into hope and eager anticipation.

Jesus is our great High Priest who always lives to intercede for us.

Our resurrected Lord Jesus gives us peace, that we might proclaim His gospel to all peoples, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Why did Jesus have to leave? Days before Pentecost, Jesus ascended to heaven leaving the disciples. He told them to wait in Jerusalem for the gift and power. He said he had to leave so he could send the Advocate (the Holy Spirit) for a reason.

Jesus believes the words of Moses and the prophets and the psalms. He believes they are God's words and that they must come to pass. Whether you believe them or not, is your problem to figure out. Jesus has been raised from the dead where He remains alive rescuing all those who lay their trust in Him. There is no other hope beyond death. No matter what happens in our lifetime or those after us or before us... if Jesus is alive and if Jesus raises the dead... we would be wise to consider what this means for us. For our children and our friends and our enemies. Church, let us believe the writings, as our King. Let us be committed to Holy living and service demonstrating the characteristics of the Kingdom that is quickly coming in fullness. Be strong, the night is far spent, the Day is at hand. Why is the resurrection of Jesus important? What type of resurrection did Jesus have? What would the miracles of the 1st Century do?

What does Christ's ascension hold for us as Christians today? Do we take it seriously enough to be just like the Apostles of Christ's time? Is it something we celebrate enough? Our travels thus far from Easter have challenged us to think of some things very differently and this week is no different. The ascension holds power and comfort for us but it also challenges us to think about what our calling really is as Christians.

The Creed states that after Jesus's resurrection, he ascended into Heaven. This has echoes of the Old Testament from Elijah, and the Apostle Paul makes clear in Colossians 3 that it also has implications for how we live each day.
