Jesus sees the sinner and offers to make him whole. Sin is the cause of the man's affliction. Jesus performs this healing on the Sabbath. The man is accused of breaking the Sabbath and pushes the blame to the one that healed him. Jesus takes on the Jews regarding doing good works on the Sabbath and claiming to be equal with God.

There were a lot of sick people at the pool of Bethesda that day. Why did Jesus only pick one? It seems like Jesus purposely did multiple miracles on the Sabbath day. What was His agenda?

One of the aspects of this story that really gets me is just how long this man had been ill. Considering the average lifespan of a person during Jesus’ time was about 55 years it seems incredible that this man had been this way for 38 years of his life.
