We read the story of Paul and Silas, and how even in prison they find God and His love. A jailer discovers that love and asks the most important question, "What must I do to be saved?"

Col 3:1-4. Dan Kroon. There's a big difference between being a super-spiritual person (totally out of touch with reality; head in the clouds) and being someone who "sets their heart and mind on things above". Last time we were in Colossians, at the end of chapter 2, Paul was urging us not to be super-spiritual or 'out-of-this-world' in our religion. But that doesn't mean he wants us to be of this world. No, our calling is still to be defined by 'heavenly things' and to be in Christ. The difference is that super-spiritualism seeks to get to where God is, putting on a holy facade, but the call in Colossians 3 is to simply be where you already are – raised with Christ, hidden with Christ in God, sharing in his glory. This passage reaffirms all that the book has talked about so far – we are already raised with Christ. Setting our hearts and minds on things above is about acknowledging where we are, not striving to get somewhere else.

Since we are in Christ we should be living like Christ. Where do we turn when we are in the middle of trouble? Our focus should be on Christ.

Part 2 Sunday 8th March

This is the first in a series looking at the idea that we need to renew our thinking. So often culture can slip into our thinking and the everyday can become such routine that if we are not careful we can find ourselves further away from the way we are supposed to do things. In a world where war seems normal, where people give death threats to players for making mistakes, and where a court room can cheer for the death of babies, we must take a moment to renew ourselves and say things have slid too far. We must look to Christ and let Him be our measuring guide.

God is so amazing yet He chooses to share His glory with us. BUT we must accept His gift, open it up and see what's inside.

Our Union with Christ is a Real Miracle that Has Taken Place; therefore, God calls us to Become What We Are. How do we become what we actually are in Christ?
