And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Executives of a greeting-card company decided to do something special for Mother’s Day. They set up a table in a federal prison, inviting inmates to send a free card to their Mom. The lines…

The callout culture often lacks a place for repentance and restoration to the family, but Micah says that such restoration is the heart of God and the parable of the Prodigal Son show the father restoring the repentant son to the family while the older son still wants vengeance because he does not know he is a son, or better, what a son is. We need to show the heart of the father.

Growing Together: Gospel of John
Pastor Stephen Young • Sermon • • 22 views
Jesus, the Master of the household, is about to leave (crucifiction, resurrection, assension). He is continuing to instructing his disciples how the household is to function in regard to their work and their ethic ('household code of conduct'). These work together, with the 'Spirit' of the household in producing the culture and reputation of the household. The culture or 'spirit' of any 'household' or organisation will always follow the spirit of its head or leader. Last time (from John 14:1-22) we saw that the Spirit, ethic and culture of the household of God, under the headship of Christ is one of trust, of truth, of love, of life-giving relationships and a life-giving purpose. This week, we will see that Jesus added to that, 1) 'watchfulness' (i.e. obedience, submission, gaurdianship and fulfilment, 2) holiness (i.e. the 'Holy Spirit'), and 3) peace.
