1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into…

Fight or Flight
Corey Johnson • Sermon • • 20 views
Introduction: 1. As Christians, it is important that we understand our spiritual fight or flight response. A. It is in understanding this response that we start to understand who we are as Christians. 1. This is true in how our being (who we are in our inward parts) reacts to certain stimuli, either…

Introduction: Since the late 1950’s there have been many iterations of a gameshow called “To tell the truth” where a panel of three people all claim to be the same person while the players try to distinguish who is actually telling the truth by asking them questions. At the end of the show, the players…

Jonah
Nathan Sehi • Sermon • • 11 views
Jonah 1:1-16 introduces us to a literary masterpiece. It is rich in irony both poetically and theologically. Jonah, a prophet, is commanded to call Nineveh, the seat of Assyrian culture, to repentenance. However, this divine act of mercy was repulsive to the prophet. So we read of the only prophet who ever tried to run from God. His fleeing the presence of God become illogical and suicidal as he endured loving chastisement through a storm that nearly destroyed his boat. As we learn about Jonah, we begin to understand the sinfulness and smallness of people in conrast to the might, wisdom, and mercy of God. We are left considering whether our faith is big enough to consider the mercy of God?

Joel Kolb • Spring City Fellowship • Sermon • • 4 views
The story of Jericho was a test of obedience. But what if you are not obedient? How does that go? The little town of Ai on the crest of the hills is about to become a force to be reckoned with. Disobedience is like that. Sometimes our confidence is misplaced in that we are so sure of ourselves, when the only thing we can be sure of is God. Sin is deceptive; it will ambush you. We need to learn to turn the tables on the enemy. If we learn from our failures, they can teach us how to be victorious.

Stand for the reading of our passage this morning. Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. I speak as to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. As we remember those who sacrificed their lives for our country, I also think about the families and friends of the fallen. I hear their stories as the watched the transformation of their loved ones from wild teenager to polished soldier. Many young recruits enter the military full of themselves with grand ideas of heroism. they are never the same after the few weeks of boot camp. Isn't that right? One of the areas boot camp tries to reprogram, is our natural reaction of Fight, Flee or Freeze.
