The old song got it right—“Everybody Hurts Sometimes.” But what do we do when hurting from the hand of one who should have helped. Such betrayal can only be remedied by God himself and this text will show us how.

In Genesis 15 God promises Abraham (and Sarah by association) that he would have a child and more descendents than stars in the sky. However, ten years later when Sarah still hadn't become pregnant she took matters into her own hands. She gave her slave, Hagar, to Abraham to bear him a child. Which Hagar did. But that action created a lot of strive and conflict between Sarah and Hagar, and Sarah and Abraham. We'll talk about patience and trust, and what happens when we try and accomplish the promises of God by our own timetables and hands.
