Kevin Llanos • Redemption Hill Community Church • Sermon • • 118 views • 46:22
Last week we looked at the covenant that God made with Noah after the flood, and we saw the sin of man manifest itself in Noah and his sons. Consistent with the early records of mankind, a genealogy is given of the descendants of Noah and his 3 sons. Recall God’s command to be fruitful and multiply.…

As we enter the Advent Season this morning, we wait expectantly. We await a savior as the Israelites did. We know of Jesus, and we know Jesus will return - though we don’t know when. All the neighborhood stood still and quiet, my wife froze where she was at, I stood looking at my son… my heart beating powerfully in my chest with some of the deepest fear mixed with concern and panic that it had ever felt. Just seconds before… I watched as my young son rode his bike between our cars…

What did God want humanity to do? Represent him well in every corner of the planet. God said, "Go!" and the people said "No!" They stayed together and built a tower that reached to heaven. We know this as the Tower of Babel. God, as the hero of this story, puts his grace, love and mercy on display. Great is his faithfulness to do what he promised! He said he would send the redeemer, and introduced the one through whom he would keep that promise. His name? Abram. Join the Grace United crew as we hear again, for the first time, the story of the Tower of Babel, and all the begats of Genesis 10 and 11.

Often, even as followers of Jesus, we find our immediate response regarding behavioral psychological issues to be more in line with an unbelieving, materialistic, naturalistic worldview. This, in spite of the fact that Jesus regularly dealt with, talked about, and affirmed the reality of the meta-physical, the unseen spiritual world in which we live. At the very least, we should pause and pray, consider, and seek the LORD in the situations in which we find ourselves in relation to the people around us in regard to both their and our behavior. Maybe there's more to humans that random, electrical impulses, synapses, and chemicals. Where do we draw the line anyhow? And who gets to decide where that line even is? God has made a world full of powerful elements. Medicine can be good. We ought to trust in God and be wise. We are to live by faith. Let me take a moment to set appropriate expectations for this text today. First, let’s remember we don’t skip passages in scripture – primarily because as Paul writes, “all scripture is inspired by God and is profitable” ( 2 Tim 3:16 ). Second, I’m not going to pretend this passage provides some of the…
