Two nights ago we looked at and considered how the common writers of John, Luke, and Matthew responded to the birth of Christ by sharing it in written form and making Him known We looked at Joseph and Mary as the obeyed the Lord’s message and pondered on the things they heard We considered the shepherds……

The opening of Luke's Gospel records the reaction of two people to incredible news. Their reactions couldn't be more different: the one whose news is more positive doubts, yet the one whose news is more threatening rejoices. What are the secrets to Zechariah's (the father of John the Baptist) and Mary's (the mother of Jesus) reactions? How can we accept God's work in our life more like Mary than Zechariah?

"The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay." Don't you love Christmastime? Baby Jesus. Mary Joseph and the wise guys--and don't forget the shepherds! All serve to bring into focuse "the reason for the season." But we know that Jesus didn't stay a baby. He grew up, spent time as an iternant preacher, did miracles, trained disciples. The Jesus died. Crucified. Then he was buried and rose again! He ascended to the Father's right hand as Lord of all. As Lord over all. As we know, our governmnental system does not indicate "Lord." But Christians do. Come with the Grace Unted crew as we explore what it means that Jesus is Lord.

Gabriel told Zechariah, "Your barren wife will have a son and you shall call his name John"-"God is gracious." Indeed, God was gracious to this couple who were way past childbearing age. What would John be like? Did he have a special mission from God? After all the Lord was about to perform a miracle, much like he did with Sarah and Abraham thousands of years earlier. Recognizing the new King

Herod the Great's response to the birth of Jesus reflects the heart attitude of a majority of the world's population. This sermon takes a look at Herod's response to the birth of the Savior.

In Matthew's gospel account, we come across two kings. One lives in a comfortable palace in Jerusalem, while the other king lives in a little town named Bethlehem. A group of wise men from the East spots the star signifying the king of the Jews has been born! They wish to worship and give expensive gifts to him in honor of his coming. In this message, we discover who we are in this Christmas story - are we the wise men or Herod? This question is answered by how we respond to the newborn king.

Part Two - A brief series of three messages from Matthew's Gospel for Christmas 2020 (and the New Year) to remind Christians that our hope for 2021 is not in improved circumstance but in Whom we trust and serve. By faith in Him we need not fear or falter but press ahead in His fullness.

Herod is an example of those through the centuries who have missed the grandeur of Christ's birth and have rejected His authority in their lives.

One of the most common areas of scandals is the area of politics--both in history and presently. Politics is also one of the most heated areas of debate and division in our culture. In today's passage, we see a powerful ruler, King Herod, flexing his political muscles against King Jesus. His response is actually a picture of our hearts' response to King Jesus' authority; today's passage challenges our view of politics as well as the misplaced hope we put into it. It reminds us of the hope of Jesus' kingdom.
