15 All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles…

Is it possible to look spiritually alive on the outside but inwardly be spiritually dead? Are we masters of image management, looking spiritually vibrant while knowing that our hearts are far from God? This is the problem that Jesus confronted the Church of Sardis. We as American Christians face this same problem as well. What does this look like for us today? How do we truly change so we are inwardly alive in our relationship with Jesus? Let's learn from the Church at Sardis.

A. 첫째본성 우리가 소유하고 있는 첫째 본성은 흔히 “옛 사람(the old man)”으로 불린다. 이 본성은 우리의 조상, 아담으로부터 물려받았다( 롬5:12 , 고전15:22 ). B. 둘째본성 우리가 받은 둘째 본성은 “새 사람(the…

The outward signs of following Jesus can be hypocritical but are useful, although they can also be distracting. The inward calls us to quiet trust in divine impulses, to identification with Jesus who suffered naked in a ritually impure place yet was utterly effective in saving the world. The outward may look like the reverse of the inward because genuine obedience to Jesus seeks the self-emptying place. But the Father will see the inward and at the second coming our live’s real meanings will be fully visible before God.

Restore is about the transforming work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit renews our spirit to be able to live and interact in spiritual reality. We become spiritually alive - that is the life of the spiritual river flowing in us and through us. We must then learn how to nurture and grow that spiritual capacity. It should change the way we view ourselves and the world around us. And we learn that it is beneficial that we do this together with other spiritually-empowered people.

Christian people should devote themselves to ardent prayer to God for their brothers and sisters in Christ. We depend upon God’s common grace for daily bread and provision, for health and life, and we depend upon his saving grace for spiritual health and vitality. How are we to do this? Paul explains this in two different ways.
