David continues his series through the Gospel of John. This week, we come to the first of the sign miracles in John’s Gospel, turning the water into wine. This miracle shows Jesus’ power over all of creation. In an instant, Jesus creates something out of nothing just as God created the whole universe out of nothing. In this act, Jesus beings to reveal himself to the common man for who he is.

The book of John tells us that Jesus' first "Sign" was at a wedding feast. There he turned the water into wine. Have you ever wondered why this is a "sign"? Isaiah gives us a clue in Chapter 25. God had long been preparing a feast for his faithful people. It would have the finest meats and the best wine. But it would only happen in the day of the Lord. Jesus twice performs a "sign" by multiplying the food (bread and fish), but this is the only time he performed a miracle with wine, and
