In the previous session we discussed Jesus’ ministry in Capernaum and how He revealed His power, purpose, and compassion. In this session, we will look more closely at Jesus’ mission and how He revealed it to the people. We will consider how Jesus fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy of the Messiah and how the people rejected Jesus. Ultimately, the rejection shown in His hometown of Nazareth would culminate in His paramount rejection by the people at the crucifixion. In examining these truths, we will see that the way Jesus faced rejection can motivate us to continue to persevere in our mission to proclaim salvation through Christ even when we face rejection, including by those closest to us.

In this message, we will consider the faithful obedience of the Servant unto death, and we will ponder the lack of thought about his suffering.

In Matthew 2, we find a strange welcome for a king. He is sought and worshipped by those who should have been indifferent or unaware, and he is opposed and even vehemently rejected by those he came to save. Themes of worship, opposition, and providence are clear. Jesus is to be worshipped, but he is naturally opposed. God has providentially worked in history to exalt Himself in Jesus Christ, including the mysterious time of his infancy and early years.

Understanding that no matter your condition, the Lord is willing and able to heal you.
