Believing Is Seeing

Jn 1:23. Tony van Drimmelen. Who is Jesus really? In this series we are taking a look at the perspective the gospel writer John gives on the identity of Jesus. There are tell-tale signs that only John records so that we can believe in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God (Jn 20:31). With every sign there is a challenge to respond. The challenge in this first message is to believe and be the voice of God in the world today. We might recognize that our identity has been shaped by popular culture around us. We consider how John the Baptist defied culture to expose the real Jesus as “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (Jn 1:29).

Theme: John the Baptist points to Jesus. John the Baptist is preparing us to see the greater glory, the glory to know God Himself, to walk with Him. Christ graciously came through John to prepare us, and to remind us to not seek glory in passing and fading things. But to seek the one glory that we were created for, and that is to know Him, to touch the face of our God.
