Knowing the God of Love

Crossroads. Everybody comes to them. And we must make a decision as to which path to take We cannot stand there forever. Often, those decisions will spell out the course of our lives for the rest of our days. Sometimes, it will chart our eternal destiny. This is where the Corinthians were in relationship to Paul. Jesus alluded, "So many roads to follow. He said, 'There's one.'" When it comes to things pertaining to eternal life which road are you on? Come with the Grace United crew as we see the Corinthians wrestle with their crossroads experience.

We have all heard the words of the greatest description of love anywhere: "If I speak in the tongues of men and angels, but have not love, I have become as a noisy gong or clanging cymbal." And so on. We have also heard the love is patient and kind. And so on. But where does love fit on what is increasingly the battlefield of culture today? What is the challenge to God's love in our world? Come with the Grace United crew as we discover how love can be the more excellent way.

God invites us to "play catch" with him! What is that all about? David pictures himself in his relationship with the Lord as a weaned child against his mother. All of this has to do with hope, the kind of hope that says, "I KNOW so." How so? Come with the Grace United crew as we receive from the Lord some vital ways to show our hope in Him.

The Psalmist proclaims "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!" The Lord encourages, even demands his people to proclaim his goodness, and as his people, our holiness--that we are set apart unto him: called out from the world. This is especially true in a corporate way. God told his people numbering more than a million to loudly proclaim they were his--all at once! How, and where and what was this proclamation all about? How can God's people do this today? Come with the Grace United crew as we joyfully immerse ourselves into the Lord's command to corporately proclaim we are his people and he is our God.

The Big "C" is a dreaded word in our world. "C" is painful. Surgery is almost always needed to cut the cancer out. But there is a big "C" in the Scripture as well. Circumcision. Circumcision is commanded for . . . all God's people. "But" we might say, "how can circumcision be commanded for all of God's people? Isn't it supposed to be for males only? Well, not exactly, although males in Israel are commanded to get the Big "C". What is God after? What exactly is circumcision for anyway? Come with the Grace United crew as we explore this all important issue of circumcision and what it means for ALL of God's people, Old Covenant or New Covenant saints.

We say that our salvation is by grace alone. We confess that God is Almighty, and that we are helpless. If we believe these things, then we will be people of prayer. Paul’s prayer functions on a couple levels for us. On the one hand, it teaches us what we should desire for ourselves spiritually. On another level, Paul by his example teaches us how we can pray for other believers. In this sermon, we learn from Paul how we ought to pray for one another.

Jesus gives us four good ways to measure our lives: 1. Have I rejected God's representatives? (vs. 12-19). 2. Have I repented? (vs. 20-24). 3. Have I received God's revelation? (vs. 25-26). 4. Do I have a relationship with God? (vs. 27).

Follow the Good Shepherd because: 1. You will get to know God (vs.1-5). 2. He will put you on the right paths in life (vs. 4-5). 3. He will protect you from spiritual predators (vs. 6-10). 4. He sacrificed Himself to save us (vs. 9-11).

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ... 1. Because His Heavenly Father will become your Father (vs. 7). 2. Because He is the greatest revelation of God (vs. 7-10). 3. Because He guarantees great things in our lives (vs. 11-12).

Here are the Lord's simple standards: 1. Be a sheep (vs. 31-33). 2. Share (vs. 34-36). 3. Show up (vs. 36). 4. Seek to have a humble heart (vs. 37-46).

The Lord wants us to know about: 1. The greatest rift (vs. 19-21). 2. The greatest responsibility (vs. 22-25). 3. The greatest relationship (vs. 26-27). 4. The greatest reassurance (vs. 28-29).

Paul highlights 4 spiritual changes people go through when they are rescued from the wrath of God: 1. We recognize our sinfulness (vs. 1-3). 2. We repent (vs. 4). 3. We begin to rely on God (vs. 2-5). 4. We begin to reflect our relationship with Christ (vs. 6-11).

While we wait, be sure to answer these 4 questions: 1. What gifts do I have from God? (vs. 14-15). 2. Am I gaining all I can for God’s Kingdom? (vs. 16-18). 3. What is our ultimate goal for life? (vs. 19-23). 4. Do I really know God? (vs. 24-30).
