The beginning of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount would have been a great encouragement to an oppressed people group who were not at the center of Roman Empire Life. I'm afraid we're too close to the empire to find His Words as comforting. Where should we go from here? LORD humble us to see how we might love our neighbors. This message was for the people, not to the empire. Jesus message reminds us of the Blessed and Cursed pronouncements of Israel as they were about to conquer the promised land.
