The Lost Son

On Father's Day 2021, Brother Paul Mills brings a message about our toolbox for the Christian life. We need to love God and use the tools He has given us to live godly lives.

The parable of the Prodigal Son illustrates there is hope for runaway spiritual orphans. In the mess of sin, we run away from our loving God, and we flee from his presence. Yet, the road to adoption is right around the corner; once we run towards our loving Father. God embraces all spiritual orphans and gives them a new identity as children of God. As children in God's family, which is made up of his visible church, we bless one another, celebrates those who are found, and helps their lost siblings run to God.

Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.

Jesus' story of the lost son (better known as the Prodigal Son) could equally be called the Loving Father. In this famous parable, every detail hammers home the extraordinary patience, grace and love of our heavenly father. God is no remote judge or finger-wagging grandpa in the sky. There are countless conceptions of the divinity. Lots of people believe in a god, but no one can really agree on the details. People say that disagreements are acceptable, as long as you believe in a higher power. Against all those notions, Jesus made the shocking claim that “no one knows God but through me” Matthew 11:27. Let’s learn what Jesus has to say about God, and what is his depiction of the divine.
