The Lost Son

The parable of the Prodigal Son illustrates there is hope for runaway spiritual orphans. In the mess of sin, we run away from our loving God, and we flee from his presence. Yet, the road to adoption is right around the corner; once we run towards our loving Father. God embraces all spiritual orphans and gives them a new identity as children of God. As children in God's family, which is made up of his visible church, we bless one another, celebrates those who are found, and helps their lost siblings run to God.

Jesus' story of the lost son (better known as the Prodigal Son) could equally be called the Loving Father. In this famous parable, every detail hammers home the extraordinary patience, grace and love of our heavenly father. God is no remote judge or finger-wagging grandpa in the sky.
