What does it mean to say that Jesus is the "propitiation"? Could anyone else be our propitiation?

I owed a debt I could not pay, He paid a debt He did not owe"

Jesus was our propitiation to appease the wrath of God. But, He was also our expiation to make amends for our wrong doing and remove our guilt. He was the atoning sacrifice.
