We wrap up our series of renew looking at what are you thinking. Our thoughts are our guides, and so if our thoughts are not of Christ then our lives will pull away. We must learn to focus our thoughts around Christ and be around people who will feed those thoughts.

Paul first expresses his basic request for the Philippians (as a caring father) and then mentions the results that he hopes God will produce in them in answer to his prayers.

We all have things we want to change about ourselves, but it can be hard for us to make that change. We are told in scripture that we are being transformed into the likeness of God. Because of Christ we can be made new.

This is the first in a series looking at the idea that we need to renew our thinking. So often culture can slip into our thinking and the everyday can become such routine that if we are not careful we can find ourselves further away from the way we are supposed to do things. In a world where war seems normal, where people give death threats to players for making mistakes, and where a court room can cheer for the death of babies, we must take a moment to renew ourselves and say things have slid too far. We must look to Christ and let Him be our measuring guide.

We cannot live truth until we know truth, behavior is established on doctrine. Everything we have received by faith is by the mercy of God. It is only because of mercy that we are recipients of all that God gives. Tthe most reasonable response to God’s mercy is total dedication to God. He is asking for our whole lives; every area and compartment belongs to him. Our family, our work, our friends, our neighbors, our free time, our marriage. It is all to be offered to him.

When we allow the Spirit by his Word to transform our understanding we will begin to see and affirm the good, acceptable and perfect will of God, so that in every moment we will know how to live our lives in holy and acceptable worship to Him.

Church membership is not taking a membership class and signing a paper. Your salvation makes you a member of the body, and a member of other believers in your local church. The biblical view of church membership is when you begin to be transformed by the renewing of your minds; when you begin to see yourself and the world around you with God’s perspective; when you live your whole life as worship to God.
