Revelation 2:10 What kind of crowns are there? In the Hebrew, there are three words for a crown that is worn on the head. Each one is used with different significance. Hebrew “Nezer” is a crown to set apart the high priest and the kings of Israel. In the Septuagint, it is translated as “Diadem”. Let’s…

23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. 3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a…

We’re on a journey exploring First and Second Samuel, and we’ve been looking at the character of Samuel himself for a few weeks. We know that he was raised by a priest named Eli, in the temple at Shiloh. We learned about the Lord calling him and we compared the call that Samuel received on his life to…

A little boy and girl were singing their favorite Christmas carol in church the Sunday before Christmas. The boy concluded “Silent Night” with the words, “Sleep in heavenly beans.” “No,” his sister corrected, “not beans, peas.” I love this season with all the Christmas Carols and focus on the person…

International Conspiracy Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” A Gathering of Nations Why…

It is God’s will to show saving love. Romans 8:31-32 . 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Paul is drawing on Psalm 118 : 1 Oh give…
What is the church?

If the biblical evidence argues for a congregational polity, that is- the evidence in the NT shows the church as a whole, or the congregation making all the decisions in the church, then were does that leave the authority of the pastor? How can a pastor lead or shepherd the flock, if the flock is the…

Romans continues its theme of reminding believers about our new life found in Christ. However, Paul adds another layer – The Holy Spirit. Our salvation is orchestrated by the Father, carried out by the son, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. This passage describes how the Holy Spirit walks side by side with us as we live out our new life in Christ. This should be a great comfort to the struggling Christian as we pursue a life that is continually transformed into the likeness of Christ.

How many of you got up and got dressed this morning? Paul commands us to be dressed in the five virtues of compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. These are embodied in the actions of bearing with, forgiving, and loving each other. We all get dressed each day. Use that as a prompter to…

God is quite capable of replacing rulers, as he does when he sets Eliakim as vicar general in the Kingdom of Judah, under the Davidic King. Likewise, using similar language, he placed Peter, on the basis of his having been designated by the divine revelation of recognizing Jesus as king (Messiah, Christ) Son of God, as vicar general of his kingdom, a civic community that transcends death itself. Because Peter is in the transcendent sphere Peter's successors rule in this sphere, but the principle is clear: they rule rightly only under the authority of the King but rule with his authority.

The message of the seventh trumpet is that Jesus. Christ is the sovereign King of kings and Lord of lords. He will one day take the rule of the earth away from the usurper, Satan, and from earth’s petty human rulers. History is moving inexorably toward its culmination in Christ’s earthly reign.

Nature is temporal and angels are only agents, but Jesus sits at God’s right hand and rules, so he should be listened to.
That is the point of the narrative. Jesus forgives sins that only God can do. And then to show that the forgiveness is real he heals. The healing will be temporal, but the forgiveness is eternal. Are we reading the gospels and obeying Jesus in them? How shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? The Great Fast is to bow us down before him, to clear all else out of the way. And what we pay attention to is the gospel witness.

This world's way is a way of power and struggle; God instead calls us to be humble and receive the universal kingdom he has own, destroying weapons, living in the revelation and fearlessness of the Spirit, who lives in us and raised Christ from the dead, leaving the power games to those who are dying, becoming children who know that we do not know, so receive from the Son revelation of the Father and rest in simply doing what he says in trust, for in his humble service we find true rest.

Mark 12:28–34 (NIV84) 28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” 29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord…

We continue the journey through the book of Romans.
