God the Father has and continues to secure our salvation.

Jesus was inwardly secure and therefore he did not need the perks, symbols and titles of who he was, but he could give himself in self-sacrificial love. He instructs his disciples to do the same. The question is whether we are secure enough in him to do it or whether we fake it or simply seek the best title which will assure us of who we are not.

Jesus gives us true security in a troubled world.

People seek security in this life, in our text in particular, in possessions, in savings. Jesus tells us that life itself is uncertain, that giving to others with him is better than earthly security, and that he is our peace and reconciliation. We are secure to be part of his Temple. That is where we find peace, shalom.

Hebrews 7:8-16

Jesus knew who He was and what His purpose on earth was. He carried that knowledge through persecution and mistreatment, all the way to the cross. We find our security in who we are as we see His unwavering commitment to who He is.

Living Water – this sense of happiness, security, of wholeness – is available to you and me today. Maybe it’s time for you to come home to Jesus today?

Both of our readings show that projecting from a this-world vision cannot give us the future. Antiochus had not reckoned on God and the Sadducees see their conundrum dismissed by one who knew both God and the unseen world.
