Do we not show God contempt in the offerings that we give Him? Giving Him a few moments for reading His word and talking to Him is not what He has in mind when it comes to living a holy life! Malachi gave a stern warning to the priests of Israel and us today: serve God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength or risk being cursed by Him!
