Pentecost
Glenn • Grace United Family Church • Sermon • • 106 views • 48:52
There is far more to Pentecost than meets the eye--or the ear. As we remember, one of the "presents" the Lord gave to the church on her birthday was the Holy Spirit poured out on the Lord's disciples. "They spoke in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance." A birthday celebration--but vastly more important is what God has to say to the church of Jesus regarding spiritual warfare. Exactly how does a "birthday party" and spiritual warfare play themselves out? Come with the Grace United crew as we discover the Lord's marching orders for his church in waging true spiritual warfare.

Who doesn't love birthday celebrations? Pentecost for Christians is the birthday of the Church. As most of us know, it is also a Jewish feast, officially called "The Feast of Weeks." 50 days after Passover. Tongues of fire. 3,000 were added to the brand new church of Jesus Christ.
But there is more to Pentecost than a birthday celebration and souls saved and people fluently speaking in languages they had never learned. For Pentecost really was a declaration of war. In ways we in as 21st Century Western Christianity never imagined. Speaking in tongues was not even the beginning of the Supernatural View of Acts 2. Come with the Grace United crew as we explore the supernatural worldview of First Century Jews--among the first hearers of the book of Acts.

Let me take a moment to set appropriate expectations for this text today. First, let’s remember we don’t skip passages in scripture – primarily because as Paul writes, “all scripture is inspired by God and is profitable” ( 2 Tim 3:16 ). Second, I’m not going to pretend this passage provides some of the…

Introduction The world after the flood was meant to be a new creation. All the evil and wicked people in the previous generation had been wiped away. Only the one righteous man left on earth, along with his family, survived. However, this didn’t work and the story of Noah’s flood serves as a rebuttal…

Introduction Please open your Bibles to . We have a rather large passage for this morning’s sermon. I debated whether I should read all of it or not. Then I thought about Ezra. When the Jews moved back into Jerusalem following their captivity, one of the first things that happened was that Ezra read…

Maybe divisions can serve a purpose? Rather than have everyone agree on a side - and it be the wrong side - like before the flood; maybe it is good that people have different views and perspectives? Maybe if we don’t call it division - what if we call it diversity? How can we leverage diversity to recognize what is good and spread it throughout the earth?
