Jesus brings to the surface in his conversation with the crowd the issue that has been brewing, Jesus healing one the Sabbath. As a result of the healing on the Sabbath, the plot to kill Jesus started to grow. The crowd was stuck on a superficial and external viewpoint of Scripture and in so doing, were missing the truth of the message in front of them. They simply did not understand. In this passage Jesus directs the crowds attention to what is necessary to understand God's message.
