We're going back to Bible College to unpack the details behind the plagues account in Exodus. Welcome to Plagues 101! Mankind has always been tempted to look past the Creator and worship creation. The Egyptians fell into this trap as well. God uses Pharaoh's hardened heart to pour out a calculated attack on every Egyptian false god. One by one, they all fall until the only one left standing, is Pharaoh. In the end, we see that what is created should lead us to the Creator, then to the Cross.

After the "first round" ended in a virtual stalemate, the battle between Moses and Pharaoh continues with 10 signs and wonders, most often referred to as plagues, but better thought of as judgments. As we very briefly review the first 9, we see that the purpose was to confront an antagonistic culture with the truth, just as we are called to do today. The Lord has given the Egyptians 9 opportunities to repent and acknowledge that He alone is God. With each judgment (plague) the consequences have become more and more severe. In the 10th and final judgment, the turning point in the battle, the consequences will literally be a matter of life and death. But, there is also protection for those who believe.
