The people wanted Barabbas rather than Jesus. Barabbas seemed to have been a man who claimed to be Messiah and committed insurrection against Rome in which he committed murder and was sentenced to be crucified, perhaps with the other two who were hung with Jesus. His name being translated is "Son of the Father." His first name may have been Yeshua (Jesus" as well. This is the Messiah they wanted, one who conformed to public opinion rather than the Lord who calls us to conform to Him. They chose a plastic Jesus.
