The story of David and Goliath is part of a bigger story. It is not simply to help us face "our Goliaths", although properly understood, it is that too. Rather it points us to the one whom David prefigured so well on that day, one who is perfect, and faced a far more terrifying enemy: our Lord Jesus Christ.
