We were created by God to live with a healthy cadence in life. However, far too many of us are living without margin in every area of our lives. We fill our calendars. We can’t say no. We live with a harmful drive to achieve. We have lost hope that it will slow down anytime soon. Jesus offers us such a gift in saying that he has come to give us rest. This rest is found in a grace that does not demand that we jump through all the hoops or get everything right. The rest that Jesus offers is an unmerited favor for anyone who comes to Him. This grace is best experienced in community. We can learn from Jesus as we learn from one another. When we do Church with one another, we lift one another up, we protect one another’s boundaries, and we carry one another’s burdens.

When you feel like life is just too much, and you're heavy from trying to get everything done on your own, what you need is God's Yoke. His Yoke is Easy, and His Burden is Light! You have never heard the YOKE illustrated in this fashion. Your rest awaits you at the end of this sermon. Check it out!

We can give all we have to Jesus. It is said in Matthew 11:28-29 saying, "Come to me, all you who are waery and burdened, and I will give you rest."... "for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." We give Him the full weight of all our sin. Because we give God such a burden, we must offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; as said in Romans 12:1. We give Jesus our disobedience to obey God. We are wounded and weary.

When we identify with Jesus, we have the security and strength of Jesus. This carries one into our work day as we stop trying to strive to please the one who has already accepted us IN Christ.

3 steps to rest in God

The Father is revealed in the Son. Jesus said that, unlike the burdens imposed by Israel's religious leaders, His Yoke is easy and His burden is light and He welcomes those who are weary and burdened.

The LORD appointed the use of the anointing oil just as He appointed the Jewish feasts, and as so many have removed the observances of those feasts, so have they removed the observance of using anointing oil.
