Journey to Bethlehem
Thanksgiving has come and gone and there are now 28 days until Christmas. As we anticipate the Christmas holiday, I worked up a sermon series I am calling Journey to Bethlehem. Over the next few weeks, we are going to walk through the timeline of the New Testament leading up to the birth of Jesus on…
Today’s theme is Joy. The questions we want to consider are: What is Joy? How can we have joy? How does Christmas help us to find joy? The passage for today is Luke 1:57-80 . Let’s read the passage together. When it was time for Elizabeth to have her baby, she gave birth to a son. Her neighbors and relatives…

Minor Prophets: A Survey
Motivating the people (a look back) This morning we continue our survey of Zechariah (part 2 of 5) and we continue to look at this series of visions that he had in one night. Previously we have seen: Zechariah the prophet, contemporary with Haggai to the returning Jews from exile. Purpose to encourage…
As we approach Christmas, we are going to focus on a different theme each week as a part of our celebration of Jesus coming to Earth to live, die, and rise again as our Savior. The Themes we are going to focus on are Hope, Peace, Joy, Light and Love. In the coming weeks, I hope to have videos from some…

The opening of Luke's Gospel records the reaction of two people to incredible news. Their reactions couldn't be more different: the one whose news is more positive doubts, yet the one whose news is more threatening rejoices. What are the secrets to Zechariah's (the father of John the Baptist) and Mary's (the mother of Jesus) reactions? How can we accept God's work in our life more like Mary than Zechariah?

We live in a pluralistic society. Obviously. Why then do we as a culture set aside weeks, if not months preparing for a distinctively Christian holiday, celebrating the birth of the Jewish Messiah? Do we even need Christmas? Come with the Grace United crew as we talk about and seek an answer to the question: "Who needs Christmas?"

Gabriel told Zechariah, "Your barren wife will have a son and you shall call his name John"-"God is gracious." Indeed, God was gracious to this couple who were way past childbearing age. What would John be like? Did he have a special mission from God? After all the Lord was about to perform a miracle, much like he did with Sarah and Abraham thousands of years earlier. What was so special about this kid? Come with the Grace United crew as we explore the marvelous story of Zechariah, Elizbeth, and John, so named because God is gracious.

God is the only faithful Person in the universe. He is The promise maker. He is The promise keeper. If he makes a promise, we can take it to the bank. And the greatest promise he has ever made to us, sinful humans is eternal salvation. Come with the Grace United crew as we marvel, awestruck at the majesty and glory of our Great Promise maker and Promise Keeper, who has given us the promise of eternal life in Christ.

God partners with His children, with those people who actively trust Him, working in the world in various ways. We have the privilege of asking God to work for those around us and of obeying Him in being the answer to many of those prayers. Jesus is LORD over all, even the demons must obey His commands and none are able to overcome His strength. We are always in an evil generation; we frequently demand signs of Jesus, trying to force Him to prove Himself. His death, burial, and resurrection give witness to His power and truth and provide for us hope that lasts beyond our present circumstances. He isn't looking for pretenders; He wants genuine followers. Shared by Jason Stuart Percy on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Refuge TLH in Tallahassee, FL.

Zechariah’s mouth was open, and he prophesied. In his announcement, he declared what God was doing through the messiah. We look at this to learn what Zechariah said, what the church learned, and what Advent calls us to consider.
