When we think of Jesus what is the prominent thing that comes to mind? A helpless baby. And we as a culture have tailor-made Christmas "for the children", forgetting, or outright denying that the capstone of the Christmas story is Isaiah 9:6-7: "Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given and the government shall be on his shoulder." What is the greatest gift God has given? As the old saying goes, "When in doubt say Jesus!" Of course, Jesus is the greatest gift God has given sinners. Many of us know that Jesus is the greatest gift because he died to purchase salvation for us. How can this be? Jesus was born as a human. But the Messiah was called "Mighty God, Everlasting Father." How can God die? And how can a human pay an infinite debt all sinners owe a perfect, eternal God--a God whom we all have offended. To God be the glory, great things He has done! What has He done in your life? With all the chaos in our world, it may seem that the Lord is absent. But that cannot be farther from the truth. Evil has run in cycles, and this is yet another one. One thing that makes Christmas special, at least for most people, are our traditions. Most modern Christmas traditions don't come from the Bible, but rather from a mid-19th century movement in Britain exemplified, in part, by the novel "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. Of all the people the "Original Ghosts" (i.e., angels) of Christmas appeared to, the shepherds are the most perplexing. What did they have to do with these events?
