When we hear the phrase in Matthew 5:8, "pure in heart," we typically think it refers to a heart that is free of any sin, but this is not what Jesus means, for in this life we will not reach perfection though we strive for it. Let's look deeper into Jesus' meaning of true devotion to him, how it challenges us, and the wonderful reward it brings, both now and in eternity.

Jesus tells us that before impulsively deciding to follow him, we must count the cost: renouncing all that we have. But we must also consider the benefits, and Paul identifies four central benefits for us here.
