How we view ourselves, in spiritual matters, in righteousness and religion, has a direct impact on the way w e think about and manage our relationships with others. In the way of Jesus' Kingdom, we are taught to view outselves in a true state of humility and thus to esteem others better than ourselves. We are taught in the Way not to pursue things out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. In esteeming others abovee ourselves, we ought not fail to esteem and value infants, chidlren. What a joy to serve them! Jesus reminds us that we are to be a continually praying people as we have a delighted, continual fellowship with the Sovereign God of the Universe. Jesus still has compassion on regular people. In a world that esteem the rich and powerful, let us be those who serve and bless no matter the social standing of the recipient of that service. Love and unity are twin paramount traits in the life of a Christian, especially toward one's fellow Christian. A practical way to do this is with giving. Some call it tithing, but in reality it is giving. In 2 Corinthians 8, Paul lays out very practical, and challenging, principles of giving. What are they? Come with the Grace United crew as we discover what the Lord has given every follower of Jesus, namely opportunitied to demonstrate his love and his unity to the world, for the glory of God.

We are worried about many things. The Way of Jesus' Kingdom is the way of trusting the One who made and sustains us. Leaning on Him that we might be help to others and show them the Way of His Kingdom. Let us be, by grace, those who worry not about food, drink, and clothing, as the world is consumed by those cares, and instead be those who are focused on His Kingdom Way first. The LORD is worthy to be praised. Rest in Him, dear saints, He has redeemed, He will not leave you. We have this joy of living His Kingdom, in His power, not because of ourselves, but by faith, by trusting Jesus alone to rescue us and bring us near. The initial nest of trust seems secure, but for true security we need to develop character or virtue through suffering and we need to learn to quell the anxiety Mammon and the world seek to put in us. This means taking practical steps to practice the appropriate thinking and virtue so as to reap the rewards of closeness to Jesus that come with maturity.

We tend to focus on the material and not realize that we are in spiritual warfare. But Paul lays it out for us and also lays out the gifts God has given to us to overcome evil spiritual forces and their lies, gifts of grace. Jesus in Luke tests the position of a ruler who recognizes him as at least God's voice. He is fine in most virtues, but cannot overcome his need for security and status from mammon even to follow Jesus. Jesus generalizes this and points out that mammon and the lies of the devil about it are difficult to overcome - only a miracle of God makes this possible. So we should examine our lives and ask God to reveal where we are failing in the battle and then ask for the grace and truth and trust etc that are needed to overcome these attachments that the devil has snared us in so that we can truly be his disciples.
