Jesus expected, has now come

David's victory over Goliath was motivated by seeking God's glory to be upheld. We too can do great things when we are used by God in a similar way. But more important is the fact that we have a greater Saviour than David, Christ Jesus saves us from our sin. Praise God for his grace and mercy to us in him. This Christmas Eve we consider again the Good News of Great Joy declaration of he angels to the shepherds, “Today is born to you… a Saviour who is Christ The Lord.”

Who is worthy of my submission? Who has the authority to command my submission? To whom should I submit myself in order to benefit myself?

God, Creator of All, designed the marriage of a man to a woman for both their lifetimes to reveal His glory and character and to establish order in human society beginning with the home, the smallest unit of natural human governance. Our desparately wicked hearts draw us away from God at heartbreaking speed and in tragic realities with severe consequences personally and in our society. God rescues sinners when they trust Him, believing that Jesus died for their sin, that He was buried, and that He was raised from the dead and is alive now both receiving and coming to live in those who've laid their hope, their confidence in Him rather than in themselves. Now, having been brought into His Kingdom by faith, He sets before us a new way to live, the way of His Kingdom and He is alive with us and in us to help us to walk in His Way! Through the miracle of healing a man blind from birth Jesus illustrates to us how that He, as Light of the world, gives sight to the blind and light to those in darkness. We learn that the only cure for spiritual darkness is faith in Jesus Christ.

Further explaining Himself as the Good Shepherd Jesus tells that because He calls, knows, cares for & protects His people they have promise of security, with Him we are safe.

We want a Jesus that is going to make our life better, easier, happier now. We want a Jesus that will quickly fix our problems. The Jesus we want isn't good enough, the Jesus we want is weak, sentimental and lame. What we need is the true Jesus, the one who came not for our best life now but to give us the best future. We need the true Jesus who came to fix the source of our problems not just the symptoms.

Jesus heals a man who shows no evidence of faith or belief in Jesus. In this we not only see the great mercy of God for sinners but also the power that God has over sin and all of it's affects.

A desperate man comes to Jesus to heal his dying son and in a wonderful example of faith believes Jesus based only on His word, a promise. In this we learn that true faith in Jesus requires action based on His word.

John the Baptist reminds us not to seek our own glory but to give all glory to Jesus. Jesus is the Son of God, Saviour of sinners so my joy is found in exalting Him.

Jesus is the Eternal God, creator of all things and Saviour.

Jesus is the son of god

The moment Luke has been longing to tell us about, the most famous conversion in history. The glorious call of Paul to salvation has much to teach all of us about God's ordinary work in saving people from sin. No matter who you are, what you've done or where you come from Jesus is the way of salvation.

Jesus leaves crowds and the Pharisees behind to talk with 12. His purpose is to help them understand why Jesus came. He would speak of His death more often in the weeks ahead because we all need the reminder of why He came to keep us on track. Perhaps too, we can gain strength in seeing how God works.

Hope can be a very powerful thing. True hope isn't just wishful thinking but a longing and expectation based in God who cannot lie. Simeon's testimony of Christ helps us see that hope in God is satisfying.

It was in Antioch where we were first called Christians. A derogatory name we were happy to keep. What is a Christian? A follower of Christ and here we learn from the first Christians something of what that means.
