What is the greatest of God's Commandments? Jesus identifies this One Great Command in Moses' Law and links a 2nd Command to it permanently. Love God with everything and Love your neighbor as yourself. Sometimes we, to our detriment, twist the 2nd command into a self-centered diatribe about learning to love ourselves rather than focusing on the point of the command, and of love in general, that we are to live sacrificially thinking of others as greater than ourselves. Indeed, the great Christian life is the life of a servant-hearted lover of others. Jesus teaches the scribes that the Hebrew Messiah, the Christ, was to be greater than King David, not simply one of his descendants. Jesus warns the people to beware of the scribes whose preference was their own honor. Finally, we are reminded that God doesn't need money. He already owns everything. Jesus reveals himself to be not just a great prophet or teacher, not just the king of Israel, but something even greater...

1. God recognizes the story of our life (vs. 9-15a). 2. God reveals the story of our life (vs. 9). 3. God wants us to reconsider the story of our life (vs. 15-18). 4. God wants to rewrite the story of our life (vs. 18-19).

What we know affects how we honor and obey Christ.

1. Don't just care how you look. Care how you live (vs. 25-28). 2. Don't compare yourself to other people. Compare yourself to God (vs. 29-32). 3. Don't be condemned. Become a child of God (vs. 33). 4. Don't reject God's Word. Receive it! (vs. 34-36).

Jesus wants us... 1. To reject the mindset of the scribes and Pharisees (vs. 1-7). 2. To give God the reverence He deserves (vs. 8-10). 3. To follow the Lord's humble path to greatness (vs. 11-12).

Jesus wants us... 1. To get ready for His Judgment (vs. 47-50). 2. To study and share God's Word (vs. 51-52). 3. To be blessed by believing in Him (vs. 53-58).

1. God wants our church to be a place for prayer. 2. God wants our church to be a place for praise. 3. God wants our church to be a place for people.

1. We should see Jesus seeking to save our souls. 2. We should see Jesus as our shelter in the storms of life. 3. We should see Jesus as our sovereign Lord.

Here God shows us: 1. the harm that comes from hard-hearted people. 2. the habits of hard-hearted people. 3. the help Jesus can give to hard-hearted people.

1. Don’t keep people from God’s Kingdom. Help them go in! (vs. 13). 2. Don’t be greedy. Be generous! (vs. 14). 3. Don’t make people worse. Make them better! (vs. 15). 4. Don’t treasure gold. Treasure the things of God. (vs. 16-22). 5. Don’t be satisfied with less. Strive for God’s best. (vs. 23-24).
