Results

Paul is telling us that how we ought to behave is a result of who and what we are. So a proper understanding of what it means to be a Christian in the biblical sense is essential to how we ought to live our lives.

The most immediate idea we come to in reading this passage, is that the master determines the service. Paul is not simply writing theoretically, but his desire is that our Christianity be real, that our belief in Christ Jesus be lived out in our lives!

We have been emancipated from being set down into the realm and rule of sin, we are no longer appointed and constituted as sinners! Sin truly no longer controls us, it is no longer authorized and empowered to mandate how weI think, and what we do!

Far from being truly free and able to do as we liked without any care in the world, we were enslaved to Sin, and excluded from true righteousness. The only true thing that it produced within us was shame and death; both physical death and spiritual death.
