Romans 6:14 provides us a summary and explanation of the commands expressed in verses 12 and 13, that sin shall not be master over we who died to sin, for we have been transferred to the reign of grace.

We started life in sin, and our bodies are accustomed to it. But we who died to sin have, through our union with Christ Jesus, both the ability and the responsibility to restrain our bodies and members from the sinful behavior they are accustomed to, and to re-train them as instruments of righteousness, alive from the dead and able to be used by Him for His glory!

We who died to sin, are to consider that God has made us holy in our union with Christ Jesus. Through our union with Christ Jesus, God has given us the capability to not let sin reign in our mortal bodies for the first time in our existence!
