Psalm 95:1–11

Come, let us sing for joy to Yahweh; let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; with songs let us shout joyfully to him. For Yahweh is the great God, and the great king over all gods, in whose hand are the unexplored places of the earth, and the heights of the mountains are his, to whom belongs the sea that he made, and the dry land that his hands formed. Come in, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before Yahweh, our maker. For … Read Psalm 95:1–11

John 4:21–24

Jesus said to her, “Believe me, woman, that an hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You worship what you do not know. We worship what we know, because salvation is from the Jews. But an hour is coming—and now is here—when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for indeed the Father seeks such people to be his worshipers. God is spirit, and the ones who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” Read John 4:21–24

Famous Christian Quotes About Worship, Praise

A Description of Early Christian Worship

The wealthy among us help the needy; and we always keep together; and for all things with which we are supplied we bless the Maker of all through His Son Jesus Christ, and through the Holy Ghost. And on the day called Sunday, all who live in cities or in the country gather together to one place, and the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read, as long as time permits; then, when the reader has ceased, the president verbally instructs, and exhorts to the imitation of these good things. Then we all rise together and pray, and, as we before said, when our prayer is ended, bread and wine and water are brought, and the president in like manner offers prayers and thanksgivings, according to his ability, and the people assent, saying “Amen”; and there is a distribution to each, and a participation of that over which thanks have been given, and to those who are absent a portion is sent by the deacons. And those who are well-to-do, and willing, give what each thinks fit; and what is collected is deposited with the president, who helps the orphans and widows, and those who, through sickness or any other cause, are in want, and those who are in bonds, and the strangers sojourning among us, and in a word takes care of all who are in need.

Justin Martyr

Approaches to God Must Match Who God Is

God is a Spirit infinitely happy, therefore we must approach him with cheerfulness; he is a Spirit of infinite majesty, therefore we must come before him with reverence; he is a Spirit infinitely high, therefore we must offer up our sacrifices with the deepest humility; he is a Spirit infinitely holy, therefore we must address with purity; he is a Spirit infinitely glorious, we must therefore acknowledge his excellency in all that we do, and in our measures contribute to his glory, by having the highest aims in his worship; he is a Spirit infinitely provoked by us, therefore we must offer up our worship in the name of a pacifying mediator and intercessor.

He Who Understands God Best Loves Him Best

If I were asked which I preferred, to endure all the trials of the world until the end of it, and then receive one slight degree of additional glory, or without any suffering of any kind to enter into glory of a slightly lower degree, I would accept—oh, how willingly!—all those trials for one slight degree of fruition in the contemplation of the greatness of God; for I know that he who understands Him best, loves Him and praises Him best.
