On behalf of Mrs. Kathy and family I would like to welcome you and thank you for showing your love and support for them during this difficult time in their lives.
We are here today to worship the Lord Jesus as we celebrate the life of Bro. Pete Jones (or affectionately Preacher Pete). Thursday night when I arrived at Preacher’s Pete’s house I sat with Mrs. Kathy, Nicole, and Stephen. Nicole told me that while in the hospital Preacher Pete made one request for his funeral, saying “keep it short and sweet for Preacher Pete.” Today I will honor His request!
Preacher Pete was born in Enterprise Alabama (Roll Tide) to Hubert and Effie Mae Jones. He served his country proudly during the conflict in Vietnam. He married the love of His life Mrs. Kathy on 10/3/1969 (just short of 53 years). He loved his family dearly and was so proud of you guys!
Preacher Pete graduated from the North Florida Theological College with a Bachelors of Ministry in 1984 and that same year he was called to this church (Enigma Baptist Church) as Pastor. Preacher Pete served E.B.C. and the community of Enigma faithfully for 35 years. Nicole told me that often times Preacher Pete was called to minster in so many different contexts, often he was called to nearby wrecks beating first responders to the scene where he would minister to those involved or their loved ones. Stephen stated it correctly; Preacher Pete was souled out to ministry. This was proved over and again as He and I would visit the community one Wednesday a month. He knew where everybody lived and would tell me of their families and prayer concerns. I have never seen a preacher who loved a community as Preacher Pete loved Enigma. His heartfelt humble prayers will certainly be missed. If I was asked to summarize the life of Preacher Peter I would summarize it like this…. Preacher Pete loved greatly and ministered faithfully!
Preacher Pete was my friend, mentor, and champion as he was for so many of you… and on Sept 22 around 8:15 pm he slipped peacefully from the temporal and into the eternal and today he is alive and well in the presence of God having been promoted to glory. I am happy for him but hurt for you, today my prayer for you is that the God of all comfort will bring comfort to your heart,
Let us pray….
