It's Good to Give Thanks

Psalm 92:1 NASB95

1 It is good to give thanks to the Lord And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;

It is good to give thanks to the Lord

the Bible is not as complicated as many people think, this Psalm makes it simple for us: giving thanks to the Lord is a good thing to do

the right thing to do

the proper response

the appropriate reaction

and something else is good . . . sing praises to His Name

thank God for waking you up in the morning

thankyour food

Did you say thank you that he woke you up this morning

Did you say thank you for making it to December 2020

Did you say thank you for another week of shelter

Did you say thank you that you were able to drive here

Did you say thank you that though you didn’t drive here, you were able to ride here

did you say thank you for shoes on your feet and clothes on your back

if you can still walk, have you said thanky ou

if you and still talk, hear, see

conversely, it’s a bad thing to not give thanks

to give thanks - it must be done

some action is taking place

What kind of action? An action that expresses gratitude

that’s why an action word is used GIVE thanks

what if you bought a child a PlayStation 5, and they just stared at you? Would you consider that giving thanks?

no, you would say, that unthankful brat just stared at me, because thanks requires action

The first level of expressing gratitude is saying something, it’s an easy action

so easy, that we teach our young children to say, “Thank You”

Let me ask you some questions

thanks must be done, so express your thanks by saying thank you

You can also express thanks by sacrificing

in the Old Testament, They had thanksgiving offering

they would sacrifice one of their choice animals

Are you thankful enough to sacrifice!

to thank God for sending his son, we asked for a offering of thanksgiving

for many it would be a hardship, but that’s why they call it a sacrifice

You can sacrifice by serving, our motto for 2021 is Saved to Serve

are you willing to express your thankfulness through a sacrifice of service

eventually mom gets tired of thank you card

show me you are thankful by washing those dishes . . . sacrifice of service

Thanksgiving must be done

to the Lord - it must be directional

you recognize not only that something was done, but who did it

this means that you give direct credit to the one who actually did it

you not only name the blessing, but you name who gave you the blessing

thanks is not done properly, unless it is given to the right person

I don’t want my wife to thank another man for flowers that I sent her, that’s not oik

we live in a world where it’s ok to not to give credit, or give credit to the wrong person

during thanksgiving, many give thanks, but don’t give thanks to God

people will escape a terrible wreck and say there were lucky

or people recover from a terrible sickness and thank everyone else but God

I thank the doctors and nurses

I thank my family for encouraging me

I am thankful that my body reacted well to the treatment

or say, “I was just a fighter”

but never thank the God who made the doctors, nurses, family, treatment, and gave you the will to fight

and to sing praises

music takes it to a whole new level

great events use song to make it meanigful

movies use music to enhance their scense

stores use music to make you happy to shop

when a man sings to his woman, or woman sings to her man . . . .

sing praises - point is to acknowledge his greatness

in this case it is singing (song book)

to your name, O most High
