Elisha

Leading up to chapter 4 verse 30
Elisha was a young man who followed Elijah
this began in I kings chapter 19 right after Elijah thought he was going to die and he was alone.
Before this Elijah had done, or had been a part of many miracles 11 to be exact
1) Causing the rain the cease for 3 1/2 years (1Ki 17:1) 2) Being fed by the ravens (1Ki 17:4) 3) Miracle of the barrel of meal and cruse of oil (1Ki 17:14) 4) Resurrection of the widow's son (1Ki 17:22) 5) Calling of fire from heaven on the altar (1Ki 18:38) 6) Causing it to rain (1Ki 18:45) 7) Prophecy that Ahab's sons would all be destroyed (1Ki 21:22) 8) Prophecy that Jezebel would be eaten by dogs (1Ki 21:23)
In between these two miracles a lot happens
a war breaks loose in Israel and many other things that happen during a war in the Bible times lol
Ahab the king dies
Jehoshaphat becomes king and he is a good king
25 years later Ahaziah becomes king and he is a bad king who serves baal 1 kings 22:53
9) Prophecy that Ahaziah would die of his illness (2Ki 1:4) 10) Calling fire from heaven upon the first 50 soldiers (2Ki 1:10) 11) Calling fire from heaven upon the second 50 soldiers (2Ki 1:12)
12) Parting of the Jordan (2Ki 2:8) 13) Prophecy that Elisha should have a double portion of his spirit (2Ki 2:10) 14) Being caught up to heaven in a whirlwind (2Ki 2:11)
It most certainly goes without saying Elijah had an influence on Elishas life. They were together for at lease 25 years probably more.
Imagine the stories. Imagine the lessons he would have learned from this man of God.
No we see Elisha catching a double portion of what ever Elijah had and Elisha starts his own set of miracles
1) Parting of the Jordan (2Ki 2:14) 2) Healing of the waters (2Ki 2:21) 3) Curse of the she bears (2Ki 2:24) 4) Filling of the valley with water (2Ki 3:17) 5) Deception of the Moabites with the valley of blood (2Ki 3:22) 6) Miracle of the vessels of oil (2Ki 4:4)
Now comes a miracle that Elisha was not ready for.
2 Kings 4:30–37 KJV 1900
30 And the mother of the child said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And he arose, and followed her. 31 And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Wherefore he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not awaked. 32 And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed. 33 He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto the Lord. 34 And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm. 35 Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. 36 And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son. 37 Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out.
What did he do?
He did exactly what the man of God before him did.
When you don’t know what to do, and it isn’t clearly spelled out in scriptures.
pray
do what others before you have done.
