Introduction.
Home life began with God’s expressed desire for Adam to have a helpmate.
The word “meet” in Hebrew is “to tell”, it means to correspond.
A Help corresponding to Him.
A suitable help.
Someone to mirror him, opposite him.
Adam has no one to talk to, and human relationships are built on conversations.
This is why so many good marriages are built out of two people who are very different, yet there must be some things that are the same.
gen 2:19
He didn’t go make a new creation she was made of the same stuff he was.
Our children are going to face different challenges than many of us did in choosing a spouse.
6 And no believer should ever marry an unbeliever, under no circumstances.
Should always marry believers.
59-0125 - Be Certain Of God
The first example in the Scripture of two believers coming together in marriage is Isaac and Rebekah.
(Abraham and Sarah were married before they began to follow God.)
There are some basic principles we can take from this, including things we can apply spiritually, especially when it comes time to choose a church.
1. Have people in your life that you trust to help you make the right decision.
This was an important mission.
Back then you didn’t have many girls to choose from.
You need someone to talk to, and seek counsel from them.
I said, “Now, look Brother Osborn, get started on the right foot.
Now, you can make a lot of noise, or anything, and people will follow you; but remember, your ministry, you’ll answer before God for it someday.”
I said, “There sets an old oak tree on my porch,” referring to Brother Bosworth; I said, “who knows about Divine healing.
Crawl up under the tree and talk to him a little while.”
52-0713A - Early Spiritual Experiences
Seek wisdom, then do what God leads you to do.
Cultivate wise friendships.
you don’t want advice from the people who are selling it.
A Christian Mom and Dad are still the best source of wisdom, because they know you better than anyone else.
2. Culture Matters
Rebekah’s family were not on the level of Abraham, but they at least had the same customs and culture.
3.
If You are Where God Wants You to Be, Let Your Spouse come to You.
Our kids should not be used as tools to build someone’s church.
4. Be in the Right Place at the Right Time.
Serendipity works a lot better when you are at the meeting where the young people are.
It was no accident that he was looking for a Bride for Isaac at that place and time.
It was no accident that you are here this morning.
31 You were all pre-planned by God.
Nothing happens by chance, with God.
He knows all about it.
It’s all pre-planned, planned for many generations back, so that you could be here tonight.
65-1205 - Things That Are To Be
It was no accident he sent a prophet to this generation.
Statistically whoever your kids spend the most time around is the ones they’re going to marry.
Be at the well at evening time.
“Now, I want you to notice how easy it is sometimes on a little persuasion for a Christian to get in the wrong company, trying to be pity.
“Well, I tell you, I will just go down to the pool room.
I won’t play any pool, but I’ll go down there.
I’ll go to the dance with Susie, because she’s a good girl, and maybe I’ll win her to the Lord.”
You’ll never do it, doing that.
That’s right.
Show your colors.
That’s right.
Don’t get on the wrong ground.
32 That’s what’s the matter with the Pentecostal church tonight.
They’ve got on the wrong ground.
That’s the reason that in the church tonight, the people…It used to be wrong for the people to do certain things.
Now, it’s not wrong; they do it anyhow.
You got on the wrong grounds.
You got with the wrong crowd.
Show me your company, I’ll tell you who you are.
