Recap

Last week we talked about the right way for us to judge
We said that we don’t judge for the sake of being judgmental, but we judge for the sake of regeneration
We talked about first taking the log out of your eye to see clearly to help your friends out with their sin struggles. Which we all have.
We talked about none of us being righteous, but being broken people who want to help broken people.

Types of Judgement

In 2002, a high school girl falsely accused a football star named Brian Banks of rape. That accusation caused the loss of several college scholarships. Instead of going to college to play football, Banks served a five-year sentence. He likely could have played professional football with a brilliant career full of honors, records, etc., but we will never know. He served five years in prison, and was still on parole in 2012 when his accuser admitted that she had made a false accusation. He tried out with a few teams, but didn’t make it in the end. In 2014 he got a job working at the National Football League offices in New York.
Brian Banks’ name was cleared, but is that enough to compensate for the loss of time and potential opportunities he may have had? Is he getting justice? A day is coming when God will judge the liar and vindicate the accused.
—Jim L. Wilson and David Mills
God wants you to live a life glorifying of him. That doesn’t mean wealth or popularity.
God convicts us in our sin for the sake of us seeing it and turning away from it so we can enjoy our life in him
When we live our lives in sin we miss out on countless opportunities
The difference in the judgment of this football player and us is that our judgement is 1000% right. We sinned against God and because of that we are guilty.
Current Judgement- Which is God’s judgement he uses nowadays. He primarily does this through conviction (that feeling you get when you know you did something wrong) to point us on the right track in life.
Final Judgement- the ultimate judgement at the end of your life. This is when you answer for the way you lived your life and God tells you to depart or to come into heaven.
Romans 2:12–24 (CSB)
12 For all who sin without the law will also perish without the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For the hearers of the law are not righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified. 14 So, when Gentiles, who do not by nature have the law, do what the law demands, they are a law to themselves even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts. Their consciences confirm this. Their competing thoughts either accuse or even excuse them 16 on the day when God judges what people have kept secret, according to my gospel through Christ Jesus. 17 Now if you call yourself a Jew, and rely on the law, and boast in God, 18 and know his will, and approve the things that are superior, being instructed from the law, 19 and if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light to those in darkness, 20 an instructor of the ignorant, a teacher of the immature, having the embodiment of knowledge and truth in the law—21 you then, who teach another, don’t you teach yourself? You who preach, “You must not steal”—do you steal? 22 You who say, “You must not commit adultery”—do you commit adultery? You who detest idols, do you rob temples? 23 You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? 24 For, as it is written: The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.
This passage hits on hypocrisy and concealing
Throughout the bible we see examples of God’s judgement. Typically the process is we do something stupid and he responds with his righteous judgement
The reason God convicts us is very similar to why we judge someone else, it is for the purpose of regeneration. He does this so we see our sin and the effect it has on us and so we can turn back to him.
Are you feeling convicted today?
Our conviction is not meant to condemn, but to point us to the cross
We often feel convicted when we are living our life in sin.
We see in the bible with the story of David and Bathsheba that hiding your sin doesn’t work. David did so much trying to avoid his sin being found out, but in the end it said God saw what David did as evil.
You may be able to hide your sin from man, but you will never be able to hide it from God

Final Judgement

This is the judgement we will all face someday.
This is the judgement God will rein on us after we pass away or when he returns
We don’t know the day nor the hour.
Regardless of how you live your life now, someday you will stand before Christ.
Are you feeling convicted today?
If you are then maybe today you need a heart change or an encouragement that it is not too late to turn to God.
God loves you and wants you to live a life that is glorifying to him.
Today, choose to follow Jesus
