I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake. I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever. Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour.
Over the last few weeks we have talked about the purpose of this book the purpose is so that your Joy may be full
How can it be full the answer that most Christians ask like in James when it says count it all joy when you find yourself in various trials.
How can i Count it Joy
Because Joy is not based on circumstance we can be hopeful when all seems lost to the world we can be joyful though our world is crumbing around us
How you are through faith
That way the Joy of the Lord id its faith
That even in my circumstance I know All things work together for the Good
I know that God has plans for me to prosper me to make a way for me. In this life maybe but surely in the life to come and so is it true for all those that place their whole faith in Christ and surrender to him as their one true king
we talked about a hard to swallow part last week to have joy is to have faith true faith lives as a servant to the king and obeys his commands and so it is with the true children of God they live a self sacrificial life in honor in love in thanksgiving to their King their Lord that paid a high price to set them free, not so that they would continue to be slaves to their sin but so that they would through his strength have the power over it .
Now here in our text he say I write to you children
because your sins are forgiven for His name sake
Not for your glory not just for your freedom not for your salvation alone but For his Glory
I write to you fathers and young men
those that have been faithful have overcome the evil one who by the grace and strength of Christ have resisted temptation resisted the devil until he fled, and to you faithful fathers who have known from the beginning, and the word of God abided in you it lives in you it is with you always until the end of the age by this you have overcome the evil one
He is saying you are doing it, Last weeks message was for us to be doers of the Word not only hearers , these men were doing it he is now writing to them
We see the is a action required of man not to merely say a prayer and go to church and sing a few songs those things are good we need them we need that fellowship Hebrews warns us about forsaking such fellowship. However there is much more to Christianity than just that. If that is all it is lets change the name on the sign to First coffee shop of Flat. No we are to be disciples that is students
We are called to study and show ourselves approved unto God.
How can the word of God abide in us if we don't read it
The scripture says for us not only to read it but to meditate on it
if we Love jesus we love his word if you abide in me i shall in you
This is one way to abide in him to be so saturated so immersed by his word it becomes your way of life your speech changes your action changes your reactions even. This is what scripture means by the renewing of your mind
it must be made new
But that only can happen if you are immersed in it
in though in reading in prayer and in speech
Part of being a doer is what we talked about last time. We want to think because we called on God he finished the work in us and in a moment its all over
Nothing more to gain but heaven its time to just wait to die so that we can then go on to glory, m
Not at all that precisely whats wrong with the church hearers not doers he started the work he will finish it but he has give you the responsibly and the charge to maintain it.
consider this parable by the Lord Christ himself
“Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. “Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent. “For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps. “Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep. “But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ “Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. “The foolish said to the prudent, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ “But the prudent answered, ‘No, there will not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.’ “And while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. “Later the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open up for us.’ “But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’ “Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour. “For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them.
matt 25:14-30
Matthew 25:14–30 (NASB95)
“For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. “To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey. “Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents. “In the same manner the one who had received the two talents gained two more. “But he who received the one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. “Now after a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them. “The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying, ‘Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.’ “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’ “Also the one who had received the two talents came up and said, ‘Master, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have gained two more talents.’ “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’ “And the one also who had received the one talent came up and said, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed. ‘And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.’ “But his master answered and said to him, ‘You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I scattered no seed. ‘Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest. ‘Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.’ “For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. “Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
1 John 2:14–18 (NASB95)
I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. Do not love the world nor the things in the world. Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour.
You have over come, Not only is Jesus the one who came to overcome He made us partakers in His glory in His kingdom He has enabled you to overcome the evil one
How by His Grace through His strength alone.
If you are really his you have power
Real Power
Power over the sin that yet remains in you
WE are called according to the Word to die to self daily
Thats the Power
Thats overcoming
That we die to our self to our pleasure to our will and we let God reign over our life in a holy life that it is no longer I who Live but He who lives in ,me
Notice his next sentence
First he says you who have overcome. Past tense you have made it you have been doing well you have allowed Gods word to abide in you you have been fighting the good fight you have been running that Race that Race of grace
Now the next sentence notice what it says here

1 John 2:16–18 (NASB95)
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever. Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour.
Here is the reasoning
its not of the Father
most of who you are what you love what you do is not of the Father let us all shed that today
the world is rapidly fading look around you its spiraling out of control the World we knew is completely different
He Who DOES the Will of the Father lives Forever
