jYou will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death.k 17 You will be hated by all because of my name, 18 but not a hair on your head will be destroyed.l

9  gYea, †mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted,

hWhich did eat of my bread,

Hath †lifted up his heel against me.

When we read these two verses, from vastly different times, we do see that there is nothing new under the Sun. Now Christ Jesus tells us, who will turn us over; whereas, with King David the person who has lifted his heals against him, is someone who pretended to be a dear friend.... In the previous verses Psalms 41:5-8 David introduces us to his enemy, but as we read about this enemy truly we see that the enemy can be: not only people from other tribes in Israel-Judah and also those of other nation, but also individuals of his very household, his court--so to speak. In Psalm 41:8 it is likely people who are around him, his family, in his weakness, that are doing these whisperings; furthermore, we know that his Son and other children did plot against him, until the time he confirmed Solomon to be the Son who would inherited the blessing to rule in his stead. It enters the conscience that King David is being paranoid, but when we look honestly at his history, then we know that David did not fabricate any allusions and there were many who feigned loyalty and friendship, to him.
It is truly another teaching where the flesh wants us to misunderstand: the flesh wants to say: it is sad that you have to wait until old times and tough times to find out who your friends are and that someone who you thought was a loyal friend was truly using your influence, all the time, for their own benefit, and were never a friend: but the spirit tells us and teaches us our only true friend is God, and that others will help, maybe, if they can but still many are only feigning and as Christ Jesus teaches, your parents, brothers, relatives, friends will hand you over -- delivered up because of your love and obedience to Christ Jesus, instead of saying yes to their devices things.
