New Heavens and Earth

Introduction:

1. This is a very controversial topic because...

A. Some of the denominational world believes heaven is going to be on earth.

1. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that heaven is going to be a renovated earth.

B. Some congregations of the Lord’s Church have started teaching that heaven is going to be on earth.

2. The bible makes a clear distinction between heaven and earth.

A. Moses in Deuteronomy 10:14 makes a distinction in sky (heaven) and heaven (highest heavens) where God dwells and the earth.

12 “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which I command you today for your good? 14 Indeed heaven and the highest heavens belong to the Lord your God, also the earth with all that is in it.

B. The Psalmist makes the same distinction.

16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; But the earth He has given to the children of men.

C. Jesus makes a clear distinction between heaven and earth.

3 We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, 4 since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of your love for all the saints; 5 because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel, 6 which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth; 7 as you also learned from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf, 8 who also declared to us your love in the Spirit.

A. The gentiles were brought into the family of God in the New Covenant.

B. Jesus went to prepare a place for us.
