Luke 17:28–36 (NKJV)
28 Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built;
29 but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.
30 Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.
31 “In that day, he who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back.
32 Remember Lot’s wife.
33 Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.
34 I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left.
35 Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left.
36 Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left.”
Jesus Compares his return To the days Lot in Sodom and Gommorah
The times In which Christ will return will be very similar to times in which Lot lived.
When we see this time aproaching, The Lord tells to remember Lot’ wife
This is to remind us that we don’t make the same mistake that Lot’s wife made so that we also instead of being saved in this day, we perish.
This is times in which we as God’s people must remeber Lot and his wife.
Genesis 19:1–26 (NKJV)
1 Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground.
2 And he said, “Here now, my lords, please turn in to your servant’s house and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way.” And they said, “No, but we will spend the night in the open square.”
3 But he insisted strongly; so they turned in to him and entered his house. Then he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.
Lot did not know who this people were, but he knew that they were not from this town.
Therefore when he saw them knowing the wickedness of the city and the dangers that they will face if they stayed in the open sqaure, he offered them his home.
This is to show us the righteousness of Lot, though lot lived among the people of Sodom and Gommorah, he was not like them.
Though we live in the midst of a crroked and pervese generation, we must shine forth as light. We must be rigtheous.
4 Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house.
5 And they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally.”
The scripture is explicit.
“both yound and old”, “all the people” from “every quater” were in on this sin of sodomy/homosexuality
In The last day Homosexuality( sexual immorality in general) will be acceptable to all types of people, to every age group. They will celebrate and be proud of this sin.
Those who speak against it, they will be surrounded by them from every quarter of life.
They surrounded the House where righteousness dwells, where Angels are dwelling.
6 So Lot went out to them through the doorway, shut the door behind him,
7 and said, “Please, my brethren, do not do so wickedly!
8 See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man; please, let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you wish; only do nothing to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shadow of my roof.”
The man was willing to compromise because he did not realise what he had in his house.
He had two angels in his house, he had the power of God.
9 And they said, “Stand back!” Then they said, “This one came in to stay here, and he keeps acting as a judge; now we will deal worse with you than with them.” So they pressed hard against the man Lot, and came near to break down the door.
10 But the men reached out their hands and pulled Lot into the house with them, and shut the door.
11 And they struck the men who were at the doorway of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they became weary trying to find the door.
We must not bow down to the pressures of the world in the last day.
In the Last days there will be tremedous pressure upon the righteous to compromise their beliefs, to compromise their holiness and consecration.
What we have to do is release the power of God, realease God’s Angels
12 Then the men said to Lot, “Have you anyone else here? Son-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whomever you have in the city—take them out of this place!
13 For we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the face of the Lord, and the Lord has sent us to destroy it.
The time has come to destroy the city of Sodom and Gommorah,
Therefore seing that our times and the times of lot is the same, we are facing the same challeneges we need to realise that the day is near.
For the trumpet to sound, and God people to be gathered to him and that this world may be destoyed.
2 Peter 3:10–13 NKJV
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, “Get up, get out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city!” But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking.
The people in the days of lot thought the warning of God has a joke.
In the last days, people will be scorners, they will scorn the word of God, they will not take seriously Christ warning of The Judgement that is to come.
15 When the morning dawned, the angels urged Lot to hurry, saying, “Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city.”
If you stay any longer you will be consumed in the punishment of the city.
The world wan’ts us to be attached to it becuase it nows that destruction awaits it, and those who fall in love with her will perish with her.
16 And while he lingered, the men took hold of his hand, his wife’s hand, and the hands of his two daughters, the Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city.
There was still a little bit of indecision.
They had not yet fully commited themselves to leave the land.
1 corinthians 7:29-31 “29 But this I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they had none, 30 those who weep as though they did not weep, those who rejoice as though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess, 31 and those who use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is passing away.”
17 So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.”
“Escape for your life” in other words, deliver you soul.
You cannot have second thoughts, you mind must be settled, your heart must be settled to escape and to go out of this city,
You have to be fully commited to saving your soul no matter the cost. Those who do shall be saved.
If you have second thoughts, if somehow you mind may be not fully decided and you look back you will be destroyed.
This is a worng to time to be double minded, undecided.
18 Then Lot said to them, “Please, no, my lords!
19 Indeed now, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have increased your mercy which you have shown me by saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, lest some evil overtake me and I die.
20 See now, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one; please let me escape there (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.”
21 And he said to him, “See, I have favored you concerning this thing also, in that I will not overthrow this city for which you have spoken.
22 Hurry, escape there. For I cannot do anything until you arrive there.” Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
23 The sun had risen upon the earth when Lot entered Zoar.
24 Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens.
25 So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.
26 But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
Lot’s wife looked back, because her heart was not fully decided to forget what she left behind inorder to save her soul and escape the Judgement of God.
There were still strings in he heart that attached her to the things and people of Sodom.
That cost her her soul.
Luke 9:61-62 “61 And another also said, “Lord, I will follow You, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.” 62 But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.””
