Lead us not into temptation
rest in His sacrifice! Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. One of the sacrifices mentioned in the Tenach (Old Testament) is mentioned as a Peace sacrifice or sometimes translated as the Thanksgiving sacrifice. It is known as the ‘shalem’ sacrifice. The root behind this word is the word ‘shalom’ whereby we get the word, peace. This sacrifice foreshadows the perfect peace and restoration that a believer has with God through a perfect sacrifice of peace, the Lord Yeshua, who offered himself 2000 years ago. The root of "shalem" is the word "shalom", which means peace, completeness, prosperity, safety, contentment, health, blessing, and rest. Since we are complete in Him and have peace with God, we need not entertain spirits of discontent, desperation, unhappiness, self-ambition, regret, etc … but can rest in His ‘peace sacrifice’. Over the past few months, the world has been in a season of chaos as it moves past the Covid crisis and is entering a period of economic uncertainty. The markets have been in freefall, with inflation reaching historic highs worldwide. In addition, wars and rumors of wars flood the headlines. With all that is happening, it would be difficult to feel any peace these days! Nevertheless, the Lord who is called Sar Shalom, who dwells within us, is our PEACE... He is our Prince of Peace! Robert, it's truly a matter of focus. And though it may take some internal discipline these days, the reality of our identity, our completeness in Yeshua, is a totally valid and real foundation for resting in His peace, a peace, in the midst of real threats and serious turmoil, that passes all understanding! Shabbat Shalom! Your family in the Lord with much agape love, George, Baht Rivka, & Obadiah Baltimore, Maryland
And this is another fine day in the Lord
Matthew 6:13 (NASB95) — 13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil one.
The Later clause “for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory was not found in the earlier manuscripts.”
90.93 εἰσφέρωb: to cause someone to enter into a particular event or state—‘to cause to, to bring in to, to lead to.[1]
Matthew 6:13 (NASB95) — 13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil one
ῥύομαι: to rescue from danger, with the implication that the danger in question is severe and acute—‘to rescue, to deliver.
Matthew 6:13 (NASB95) — 13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil one

12.35 ὁ πονηρός: (a title for the Devil, literally ‘the evil one’) the one who is essentially evil or in a sense personifies evil—‘the Evil One, He who is evil

Genitive masculine singular translated evil one
With reference to Satan along with his minions and strategies to disrupt the spiritual life of the believer to cause the believer to stumble and fall and to prevent the believer from reaching spiritual maturity.
This should present to us a question.
Does God tempt.
In our studies where there are apparent contradictions, it is time to take a closer investigation of the scriptures for there is no contradictions in God’s word.
We have Aorist Active Subjective
Definition Subjunctive
In contrast to the Indicative, the subjunctive mood is used by an author to express the probability/potentiality of an event.
90.93 εἰσφέρωb: to cause someone to enter into a particular event or state—‘to cause to, to bring in to, to lead to.’ καὶ μὴ εἰσενέγκῃς ἡμᾶς εἰς πειρασμόν ‘and do not lead us to trial’ or ‘do not cause us to be tested’ Mt 6:13.[2]
The apparent contradiction is found in
James 1:13 (NASB95) — 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.
There are those who believe that God does lead one to be tempted. There is a miserable person I know that will spend much time blaming God for all of his troubles though he makes his own troubles. And many of us know people like that and Hope that you are not a person like that. we have heard that man is his own worst enemy and the most of man’s trouble is due to man’s own bad decisions.
Man is even the believer is allowed his own bad decisions. It is a matter of volition, and we all have a determination of choice. If we are to love God that determination of Choice is essential. WE can choose to love God in response to God’s love for us and demonstrate by our own will to do and to be and to go in compliance with the God we love, or we can chose to demonstrate our distain for God by doing being and going in a direction way from God.
God does not coerce our volition.
And bring us not into temptation.
This however is a difficult verse to espouse but could it be that we could view in the picture of God holding us. As a Father holds a small child and the Child says to the Father, “Don’t Drop me.” As if the father is going to be so careless as to drop and allow harm to come to his little one who is trusting him.
The world is full of trip wires and booby traps laid down by the evil one Just to trip up the believer who is advancing in the spiritual life.
If you don’t think so. Is it just by random chance that from time to time we find just the right temptation that comes our way that seems perfectly designed to cater to our own weaknesses.
If we are afraid and nervous about such situation that my flesh might come into such situations then it means that we do recognize that we do have areas by which we can be tempted. And it may be that our relationship is so important to us that the lure of our flesh is enough concern that we ask the Lord to intervene that we might not come to a place where we are so apt to sin.
Is this maybe the Lord’s concern when the Lord prayed
“Let this cup pass from me, but not my will but your will be done.”
I won’t be conclusive about what the Lord was thinking when his heart was in anguish about going to the cross. The pain and suffering that he knew that he had to face was not something including the man Jesus would look forward to. But might it come with it that Jesus was concerned that he might not hold up to the trails and if he himself would sin what it would cost?
Those who are in a harmonious relationship with the Lord and those are walking in the spirit are in recognition that with each step forward to the objective there is a greater effort of Satan to put forth any and every attempt to stop that forward advance. The greatest attack is not in the way of pressure of adversity but sometimes it is for the things Satan will offer to entice.
How many if offered the kingdoms of the world if they would deny Christ. How many have already denied Christ for the lure of a lot less.
My prayer for the Lord to not bring me into temptation is my recognition of my own feeble way for Jesus had told is disciples who were with him that night
Matthew 26:40–41 (NASB95) — 40 And He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “So, you men could not keep watch with Me for one hour? 41 “Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
The watching is being on the alert for the devils schemes which he has been doing this for a long time, and he is good at what he does in laying our the tripwires or laying out the mine field. My watching is being on guard as we are told to do so.
1 Peter 5:8 (NASB95) — 8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
The praying is calling upon the Lord to be on watch with you.
Now two things to note
1. If I am praying in partnership with the Lord to not allow me to fall into temptation then I must also do my part into avoiding minefields whenever possible.
That means I am praying, “Lord do not bring me to a place where temptation is too great for me bear” and then I myself make a decision to put myself unnecessary on that mine field.
This is call personal responsibility or theologically if you like volitional responsibility.
Yes, I am praying in regard to the model prayer for the Lord to open my eyes to the snares that lie ahead and at the same time I chose to avoid dangerous paths.
A woman don’t get into a taxi with a man who she does not know and expect that there may not be terrible consequences.
For a young man to hang around with evil companions is opening himself up to the same consequences that will fall when they find trouble and sometimes the young man will be the one in the snare as the others make their escape.
Some years ago many across the land was in outrage that the Duke Lacrosse players were being railroaded because of a false allegation that they raped a stripper who they paid to entertain them.
Yes the district attorney was a scumbag. But I did not hear too many people asking why were the boys in such a situation begin with?
How bout the girl who disappeared in Aruba when she got into a Taxi willingly with a stranger and never seen again. Sad, and our hearts bleed for the love ones who are left in question. But is there not some personal accountability?
1 Corinthians 10:12–14 (NASB95) — 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. 14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
While I pray for protection from temptation, let me not set up my own stumbling blocks
Lord help me to make good decisions in regard to my careful walk through this world that I might not fall into areas of weaknesses that will cause me to stumble.
2. How much do we pray for the “US?”
Each other. How much do we pray for our wives and our husbands and our children our friends and our family and our brothers and sisters in the faith.
Yes, we are upset when one falls into sin succumbing to a weakness of the flesh. We shake our heads we are sad, we are outraged disappointed, whatever. But how much time have we spent in our prayer closet praying that our sons’ daughters husbands and wives friends brothers and sisters in Christ would to careful to avoid the traps set by Satan?
There is a good scene in the Movie “War Room,” where a Wife is praying for her husband who was off on a business trip. She was praying that he would not fall into temptation at the precise time that the husband was about to the cross that line with a woman that he was doing business with over dinner, when his stomach began to bother him real bad and had to call the night short.
We are in a war with a real enemy. The enemy is calculative, cunning, shrewd and has been at this game for thousands of years. He knows how to lay traps better than you know how to avoid them.
He is after you and he is after your loved ones.
Can’t seem to find time pray or know what to pray about? how about praying for you and your loved ones that we might not fall into the temptation to that would cost us our relationship with the Lord.
