For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

Tonight I want to take few moments and share a quick challenge with you. Tonight is about having fun together. But if you notice we have a theme. That theme is light.

Light is something we all need everyday. Without a light source life would be pretty difficult. And even more pretty depressing. Do you know what the number one thing hated about winter is? the darkness!

Light Shows us God’s Presences

Light has always been a symbol of God in the world. Even in the very beginning God has appointed as a good thing.

Genesis 1:2–5 KJV 1900

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

From the starting of time light has shown God’s presences. All throughout the Bible we see the light shining. God uses a burning bush to caught Moses’ attention and causes him to turn aside to see God.

Light Shows us God’s Path

God uses light through fire to show the way out of slavery into freedom and into the promised land. As He lead the children of Israel out of Egypt and through the wilderness using a could by day and a fire by night.

Exodus 13:21 KJV 1900

And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:

The Light of God’s Word shows us the path God wants us to walk. Right? I have heard it said many times and I will say to you. If you want to know God’s will for your life, the path He wants you to take, read His Word and God will show you.

Psalm 119:105 KJV 1900

NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path.

Light Shows us the Way to God

Not only do God use light to show us the way He wants us to go, but He uses it to show a way to him.

When Jesus came to this world God used the light from a start to show the way for the wise men to come to Jesus.

Matthew 2:9 KJV 1900

When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

Christ shown a bright light in the eyes of Saul on the road to Damascus to show him that he was fight against God.

Christ is the light

Jesus says that He is that light. Showing man a way back to God. In our sins we are in darkness as our opening verse mentions.

John 8:12 KJV 1900

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Knowing that we were lost wondering in darkness because of our sins God sat a plan in motion to bring us into the light and give us a home in heaven where the son of God is the light for all of eternity!

Faced with this reality we are faced with a couple challenges for all tonight.

Open your Heart to the Light

If you here tonight and you have never taken Jesus (the light) into your heart as your saviour, the Bible says you are in darkness and you are going to be forever if you don’t choose to accept the light of Christ.

Jesus says that He wants to come in and fill your heart with light. He says, “behold I stand at the door and knock.” Will you open your heart to Him?

Let The Light Shine

Matthew 5:14 KJV 1900

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

If have accepted Christ and the Light is in you. let that light shine out for others to see.

As we did with these pumpkins tonight. We opened them up and replaced the muck that was inside with the light. But what if we didn’t carve any holes in it? It was not shine the light through.

Many believers do this same thing. And many young people are good at knowing how to act light they should when they are around different people.

So how can you shine your light to others?

Live a life of Integrity

Have the same attitude no matter who you are around. Don’t live a life of lies. Even if no one ever finds out, you will still know and God knows. And if your attitude sticks it blocks the light of Christ from shines through you.

Live Free From Sin

It is hard to let the light of Christ show to others and allow them to see Christ in your if its covered in filth. It would be like covering this pumpkin with mud or not pulling out the insides. Oh, you may see some light, but its not appealing.

Tell Others

Last tonight, talk about the light. When you love something, when really enjoy it, you talk about it, right? let me ask you, do you love God? talk about Him. Tell others.

You may ask, if I am showing the light by my living won’t others see Christ in me? maybe, but the world has so blinded people that it has become harder to see unless you put it in front of them. Not in there face but talk, live, and love others to Christ.

So the question tonight is how is your light? Do you have it in you? Are you covering it up?
