INTRODUCTION.
Today I want us to look at three things.
Condemnation.
Who is in control of your life?
How to be controlled by the Spirit.
Romans 8:1–11 NASB95
1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. 10 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
MESSAGE.

No Condemnation.

What is Condemnation?
κατάκριμα, ατος, τό (In this and the cognates that follow the use of the term ‘condemnation’ does not denote merely a pronouncement of guilt [s. κρίνω 5], but the adjudication of punishment.) - BDAG.
adjudication - 2 a: a judicial decision or sentence. - (Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary 11th Ed.)
Who is not condemned?
Those in Christ
Acts 2:38 NASB95
38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Christ has set you free.
The Law has pointed out that we are sinners.
The Law cannot save us.
We cannot save us.
The Law requires death?
God’s Love.
God sent His Son Jesus to fulfill the Law.
Matthew 5:17 NASB95
17 “Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.
The fulfillment of the death of the law.

Who’s in Control?

Your sinful nature or the Holy Spirit?
How to know who is in control?
What do you think about?
Where does you mind stay?
What Dominates your mind?
Romans 8:5 NASB95
5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
Is your mind set on the flesh, your own desires?
Is you mind set on the the things of the Holy Spirit?
Does it really matter?
Romans 8:6 NASB95
6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,
The mind set on the flesh is also known as the carnal mind.
What is the problem with carnality?
According to verse 6 carnality leads to death.
DEATH - BDAG.
1. The termination of physical life.
2. Death viewed transcendently is contrast to a living relationship with God.
PEACE - BDAG
1. Life in the physical sense.
2. Transcendent life. - Life of the believer which proceeds from God and Christ.
3. Peace because we are at peace with God.
4. Without this peace we are constantly trying to fill avoid in our life or trying to find satisfaction.
Why is there no peace apart from God?
Romans 8:7 NASB95
7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so,
According to verse 7 the carnal mind (the mind set on the flesh) is hostile towards God.
God wants to be in control.
That is why the Christian believer calls on Christ to be LORD and SAVIOR.
If God in not in control and the flesh is in control there is a battle. There is no peace in battle.
Verse 8 tells us that in the flesh we cannot do want God wants us todo.
Romans 8:8 NASB95
8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Galatians 6:8 NASB95
8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

How to Be Controlled by the Spirit?

The Spirit must reside in you.
The question often asked “Do you know Jesus?”
The question should also be asked “Does Jesus know You?”
Paul wrote to the Romans about his very thing.
Romans 8:9 NASB95
9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.
The Spirit of God must dwell in you for you to be controlled by Him.
Dwell - BDAG
to reside in a place, live, dwell
John 14:23 NASB95
23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.
1 Corinthians 6:19 NASB95
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
We often talk of inviting Christ into our hearts.
We might could say that Christ is a true gentleman. He will never go or enter somewhere He is not invited to.
We are not longer our own once purchased by Christ’s atoning work on the Cross.
We must have the Spirit of Christ in us to be His.
Romans 8:9 NASB95
9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.
With out the Spirit of Christ in us we are just lost sinners.
With out the Spirit of Christ in us we do not belong to Him.
With out the Spirit of Christ in us we are helpless and weak.
With out the Spirit of Christ in us we are dead.
We are dead in our relationship to God.
But worse when we die physically we will be dead and condemned to hell forever.
With Christ in us we are alive in the Spirit.
Romans 8:10 NASB95
10 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.
Even our physical bodies will be saved through Christ.
Our mortal bodies.
Mortal - pertaining to being subject to death. - BDAG.
Romans 8:11 NASB95
11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
Paul also wrote:
1 Corinthians 15:51–53 NASB95
51 Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.
CONCLUSION.
God gives us a very Real, Vivid, and Clear picture in the Gospel according John:
John 3:18 KJV 1900
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
