Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Lord, we want you to come
That the kingdom of God is a picture of God the father and his creation man as his children.
Jesus says this
Notice this now unless you become as a child you can not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Now nicodemus did not understand this principle here.
He couldn’t understand this truth but 1 peter help us come into an understanding here
So notice this being reborn or coming as a child is speaking to a spiritual experience.
When this happen God bring us into his kingdom not just as kids but as his sons and daughter.
As his children.
Remember,
The Son of God, became the son of man so that man could become sons of God.
Now with this revelation we learn to pray, as childen, as His children
Notice Jesus’ word in Matthew 6:6
Pray to the father which is in secret.
Shut the door.
We are His children, He is our Father.
And remember the 1st words that he tell us to pray when he teaches us to pray is this “our Father”
Showing us in community and relationship.
What's our relationship with God
He not just the man up stairs he is my personal loving caring father.
Now when we have this revelation prayer is not a chore but the privileged of sonship.
So then why do we pray?
To let God know what we need?
No
Why?
Because Matthew 6:8 tell us he already knows what we need.
So then why do we do it.
Because pray brings an increased dependence on him.
When we pray we learn to trust.
We trust that he hears and he will answer our prayers.
and it brings an awareness of His presence.
Look at Luke 11:9-12
Let me tell you something today.
God is worth trusting.
So this prayer of the kingdom.
“your kingdom come your will be done.”
Is one of dependence.
We need you.
intervene oh God
Come
we need you to come.
We are crying out.
Come please come.
Answer the prayer of you child.
This is the place that God want us to prayer
Romans 8:14–22 (NASB95)
14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba!
Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
19 For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God.
20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.
Here we see the believer groaning within himself, the creation groaning, and the Holy Spirit groaning as He intercedes for us.
The believer groans while waiting for the redemption.
The word groans here is stenadzo, meaning to sigh, groan because of undesirable circumstance.
The suffering of this present time are not worthy to compare to the glory to be revealed in us.
Verse 18
1.
The body of the believer awaits future glory.
2. Believers groans because of undesirable circumstances.
3. Physical suffering
There is glory and splendor waiting to be revealed in a moment.
We shall enter and share His glory.
The believer groans in HOPE.
hope is the word elpis meaning hope, expectation
1. Salvation has brought the believer into the sphere of hope.
2. Hope is the expectation of glory of Christ.
V 18
3. Hope is the waiting eagerly for our adoption as son v 23
4. Hope is waiting eagerly… the redemption of our body
5. Hope brings perseverance v 25
The believer does not groan in despair, as he experiences the suffering of Christ, he suffers with joy knowing that “we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him.” V 17
The sons must cry out for the Fathers kingdom.
Why?
All of creation depends on it.
Our Father Your kingdom come your will be done.
Anticipation- thy kingdom come
May we live our live in the knowledge that you are coming
Consecration- thy will be done
We want you rule and your leadership
Determination- on earth
We really do want this and we will pray until we see it
Conformation -(don’t know if that’s a word) On earth as it is in heaven
we want to be like you
Desperation - give us this day our daily bread.
Jesus we need you to come.
I want to close with this.
This kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven points to one more thing.
"The beauty of heaven is God, the beauty of earth is man.
The beauty heaven and earth together is this God-man Jesus."
Edward Hyde
This also points the man Jesus’ return and our need for the one that has shown us the way.
