(Joshua 7:10-11, 21-25)
Introduction: 1. What happens when you throw a rock in a still pond?
2. It creates a ripple effect that spreads across the whole lake.
3. Sin does the exact same thing.
Body: I. Our sin reflects our relationship with God.
A. Achan’s sin was against God. (Joshua 7:10-11)
B. Sin separates us from God. (Isaiah 54:2)
C. Jesus died to fix that separation. (Heb. 10:19-23)
II. Our sin reflects our relationship with self.
A. Achan’s sin was a clear violation of the law. (Joshua 7:21)
B. Sin sears our conscience. (1Timothy 4:1-2)
C. Jesus can clear our conscience. (Acts 23:1)
III. Our sin effects our relationship with others.
A. Achon’s sin caused trouble to fall on all of Israel. (Joshua 7:25)
B. Our sin can hurt others. (Heb. 10:24-25)
C. Jesus teaches that when we wrong someone that we should try to make a restoration. (Mt. 5:23-24)
Conclusion: 1. Sin is a devastating boulder being thrown into our lakes.
2. Jesus can calm your lake if you will deny yourself and follow him
